Luminance awarded for Horizontal Innovation and New IT Product of the Year

17 November 2017 | Press Release

Luminance, the leader in artificial intelligence for the legal industry, is pleased to have been recognised with the annual award for ‘Horizontal Innovation’ by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Awards, and ‘New IT Product of the Year’ by the British Legal Technology Awards.

Luminance, which was founded by mathematicians from the University of Cambridge, uses machine learning technology to automatically read and understand large volumes of legal documents and highlight potential risks.

The prestigious IET Innovation Awards celebrate the very best innovations from both industry and academia, sharing landmark work and developments taking place across many important areas of science, engineering and technology. The ‘Horizontal Innovation’ category recognises organisations who have enabled the transfer of technology from one sector to another.

The British Legal Technology Awards acknowledge and reward excellence in Legal Technology and IT Security within the UK and European Legal Sectors, judged by an independent panel of experts. ‘The New Product of the Year Award’ recognises innovative new products and solutions which have been launched in the legal sector during the past 12 months. Luminance was also awarded Runner-up in the ‘Large Enterprise Supplier of the Year’ category on the night.

“The Luminance team are thrilled to have been recognised for our innovation twice in one evening, underlining just how quickly our technology is transforming the legal industry.” said Emily Foges, Luminance CEO. “Luminance has successfully brought the latest advances in AI technologies such as machine learning and computer vision to what is sometimes seen as a traditional profession. We’re committed to continuing to innovate for the legal industry into the future, and to exploring new uses for our ground-breaking technology.”

Luminance launched in September 2016 and is currently in use in 15 countries, having completed over 200 transactions with 50 organisations, including Slaughter and May, Uria Menendez and Gilbert + Tobin.
