Luminance, the global leader in Legal-Grade™ AI for the enterprise, trusted by leading law firms and in-house legal teams worldwide, today announced its role as the AI technology partner powering the “Practicing Law in the AI Age” pillar of TEDLaw Trainings, a new professional development initiative launched by TED Conferences in partnership with the ACC Foundation.

TEDLaw Trainings brings TED’s globally recognized approach to storytelling, perspective-shifting, and experiential learning to the legal profession. Developed with input from general counsel, law professors, private practitioners, judges, and law students, the program is designed to help lawyers lead with insight, integrity, and impact as the role of law continues to evolve.

As part of the initiative, Luminance provides the applied AI technology enabling participants to engage directly with artificial intelligence in a legal context. Rather than focusing on AI in abstract or theoretical terms, the training emphasizes hands-on learning, giving legal leaders practical exposure to how AI can be used responsibly and effectively within everyday legal workflows.

The program is structured around five pillars central to modern legal leadership: Navigating Legal Identity and Values; Critical Thinking for Legal Solutions; Intuitive Collaboration in Law; Cultural Competence in Legal Practice; and Practicing Law in the AI Age, with applied AI learning powered by Luminance.

The partnership reflects Luminance’s broader commitment to expanding access to practical AI education across the legal profession. In addition to supporting senior legal leaders through initiatives such as TEDLaw, Luminance has partnered with universities and law schools globally, including the University of Law, King’s College London and the Vanderbilt AI Law Lab to introduce law students to legal-grade AI technology, helping ensure that future lawyers enter the profession with a foundational understanding of how AI is shaping legal work. Together, these initiatives underscore a long-term focus on building AI fluency across every stage of a legal career.

“Lawyers today are being asked to operate in an increasingly complex, fast-moving environment, yet many have had limited opportunity to engage directly with AI in a structured, practical way,” said Eleanor Lightbody, CEO of Luminance. “By supporting AI education at both the academic and professional levels, we aim to make AI more accessible to the legal community empowering lawyers to approach this technology with confidence, critical judgment, and a clear understanding of its role in legal decision-making.”

Beginning in 2026, law firms will be able to host TEDLaw Trainings in partnership with TED and the ACC Foundation. Sessions are designed for CLOs, general counsel, and senior in-house legal advisors, providing an environment for learning, reflection, and dialogue around the future of law and legal leadership.

By embedding applied AI directly into leadership development, the collaboration underscores a shared belief that the future of legal practice depends not only on technological innovation, but on equipping legal professionals with the skills and perspective needed to use AI thoughtfully and responsibly.

We don’t start with rules or slides—we start with a shift in perspective,” said Nishat Ruiter, General Counsel for TED. “TEDLaw uses powerful ideas to challenge how lawyers see their role, and then gives them space to test judgment and build new capacities in settings that mirror real-world complexity. Our partnership with Luminance lets us bring AI into that journey not as a theory, but as a living part of practice. Their sandbox environment lets lawyers explore, reflect, and lead responsibly, with the same level of care they bring to every legal decision. Because Luminance has already invested deeply in legal education, this partnership enables us to integrate AI learning in a way that feels authentic to practice and fully aligned with how the rest of the TEDLaw curriculum is taught.”

About TED

TED is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to discovering, debating and spreading ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding and drive meaningful change. Our organization is devoted to curiosity, reason, wonder and the pursuit of knowledge — without an agenda. We welcome people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world and connection with others, and we invite everyone to engage with ideas and activate them in your community.

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, but today it spans a multitude of worldwide communities and initiatives exploring everything from science and business to education, arts and global issues. In addition to the TED Talks curated from our annual conferences and published on TED.com, we produce original podcastsshort video seriesanimated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world. Each year, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent. Through The Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze $6.6 billion in funding for projects that support bold solutions to the world’s most urgent challenges — working to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just. In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future.
