Luminance appoints Kat Markwick as Data Protection Officer
November 3, 2026 | London: Luminance, the global leader in Contract Intelligence for the enterprise, has appointed Kat Markwick as its new Data Protection Officer (DPO).
As DPO, Kat will be formally responsible for independent data protection oversight. She will review how Luminance uses personal information, advise on higher-risk data processing, and monitor compliance with Luminance’s safeguards. She will act as Luminance’s designated point of contact for privacy and data protection concerns and regulatory matters, and as the bridge between the company and regulators.
Kat is a qualified solicitor who has worked at Luminance for five years as Lead Data Privacy and Product Counsel. In that role, she has led high-level B2B negotiations, including multimillion-dollar agreements, and built the company’s privacy framework across the US, UK, EU, and international markets. Kat has worked with product teams to embed privacy by design and privacy by default from the outset and shape product direction and played an integral role in building Luminance’s records of how the business uses personal information.
Kat’s appointment as DPO follows that of Don Riddick as Chief Legal Officer, further strengthening Luminance’s legal and data governance function.
For customers, the appointment gives DPOs and privacy teams a clear point of contact who understands Luminance and can explain how it handles data. It also reflects Luminance’s proactive approach to privacy, with data-use questions considered as features and supplier arrangements are developed.
“I am pleased to be taking on the role of Data Protection Officer,” said Kat Markwick, Data Protection Officer at Luminance. “Customers entrust us with some of their most sensitive documents, so we handle their data with the same rigor we apply to a contract. I use Luminance every day in this work: handling data subject requests and notices, reviewing data processing agreements, and tracking what we have committed to each customer about protecting and reporting on their data. Automating the routine tasks frees up time for the judgment calls a DPO exists to make, including challenging the business where needed. We are now developing dedicated privacy and data protection playbooks, and I look forward to sharing our learnings with the privacy teams responsible for reviewing our work.”
“Security underpins our product, and strong data protection underpins the trust our customers place in us, and I am delighted that Kat is continuing her work in this new role,” said Don Riddick, Chief Legal Officer. “Formalizing the DPO role strengthens our oversight and gives our customers’ privacy teams a dedicated counterpart who understands Luminance inside out. Kat brings five years of experience at Luminance, with a detailed understanding of our product, contracts, and customer questions, having already built the processes and supplier scrutiny that a privacy function requires. Giving the role independence and a direct line to the regulator demonstrates to customers that we treat data privacy and protection as a discipline in its own right, embedded from the outset.”
