All-In on Legal AI: The Rise of the AI-Powered Enterprise in 2025

In 2025, AI became foundational. What once felt experimental has transformed into enterprise-wide change, with AI now shaping how organizations operate, make decisions and manage risk. This year marked the true rise of the AI-powered enterprise - not just adopting new tools, but reimagining what’s possible.

All-In on Legal AI: The Rise of the AI-Powered Enterprise in 2025

As 2025 draws to a close, I’ve been reflecting on how dramatically the legal AI landscape has changed, and how conversations inside the world’s largest enterprises have shifted with it. It’s clear that we’ve entered a new era in legal AI, one defined not by pilots or experiments but by enterprise-wide transformation. This year, legal AI moved from a promising innovation to a core expectation that shapes how organizations operate, make decisions and manage risk.

What has stood out to me is not only the pace of adoption but the scale of ambition. Forward-thinking enterprise teams are no longer asking how to automate tasks, but instead how to lift the performance of their entire function. They’re focused on intelligence, foresight, resilience and competitive edge. They’re imagining new ways of working that were simply not possible until recently; functions redesigned for a world that demands speed, clarity and strategic depth.

I’ve had the privilege of seeing this shift take shape in hundreds of conversations with some of the world’s leading companies. Here’s what I’m seeing…

The Landscape

Over the past few years, the market has moved through distinct phases: digitisation, then automation, and finally the explosion of generative AI. But 2025 was the year the conversation broke free from basic efficiency metrics and began embracing something far more transformational: how AI can fundamentally reshape the way businesses operate.

This shift came through clearly in the conversations I had with customers throughout the year. Inside the world’s largest enterprises, a consistent pattern emerged: Legal AI is no longer confined to legal teams. It’s enabling procurement to self-serve, giving commercial teams instant clarity on risk and opportunity, and arming executives with deeper insight than they’ve ever had before.

What stood out was not simply that more enterprises adopted Luminance this year, but how they deployed it. Many moved beyond the Legal use case and began scaling AI across the organization to build truly AI-powered businesses.

And the impact is crystal clear:

  • Imerys spoke about the transformational shift that comes from finally being able to understand their contracts not as isolated documents, but as a connected ecosystem.
  • AMD described how Luminance is enabling a small team to handle extraordinary volumes of work – AI takes on first-pass reviews and risk-spotting while lawyers focus on the highest-value work… so much so that “Why don’t we let Luminance do that?” has become a running joke within their team.
  • And at NTT Data, when a senior team member returned from holiday needing to review an 80-page MSA against an RFP deadline in under an hour, Luminance delivered instant, expert analysis – this kind of speed and confidence simply wasn’t possible before.

These stories fuel our mission. But they also prove what I’ve believed for a long time: the value of AI isn’t just about efficiency. It’s about expanding what’s possible. Giving organizations the clarity to make better decisions, faster and with greater confidence. For me, that’s been the defining change of 2025: AI moving from an optimization tool to a true driver of business strategy.

Innovation at Full Throttle

If there’s one word that captures 2025 at Luminance, it’s velocity. Our Cambridge R&D team innovated at incredible pace to stay ahead of the evolving market needs and our customers felt it! They were rolling out new use cases, expanding AI usage across whole departments and even cross-functionally. From a year full of breakthroughs, here are some highlights that stand out for their impact…

Deep Insights: This year we unveiled our multi-query reporting engine, transforming how organizations understand their data. With a single prompt, teams can instantly surface obligations, anomalies, opportunities and trends across any document set, all automatically displayed in a comprehensive report. It’s fast, forensic and built for real-world decision-making.

Smarter Negotiation: I’ve always said negotiation shouldn’t be a bottleneck. That’s why we’ve enhanced the engine behind our negotiation tool to fully leverage the latest advances in AI reasoning, massive context windows, and agentic automation. Lumi now draws on the entire document to mark up a contract just like a lawyer would, with clear explanations at every step. The result is context-aware, intelligent and reliable automation.

Compliance Module: Perhaps the clearest sign of where the market is heading: AI is moving beyond legal teams. Our Compliance Agents deliver automation, oversight and consistency to enterprise-wide processes – whether that’s tracking risks across all contracts in real-time, streamlining policy checks or triggering relevant workflows based on a business’ risk profile. And it’s only the beginning. Expect more domain-specific modules in 2026 as organizations look to standardize and accelerate critical workflows across the enterprise.

Across every development, our goal remains consistent: to build the end-to-end Legal-Grade™ AI platform that genuinely transforms how organizations think, act and make decisions.

Global Growth at Luminance

Beyond product innovation, 2025 was a pivotal year for Luminance as a company. We kicked the year off with our Series C, a milestone that represented far more than additional capital. It was a resounding endorsement of our technology, our team, and our mission. And we put that investment straight to work…

We deepened our US footprint and opened our first Australia office, strengthening relationships with customers who rely on us every day. Spending time with customers across the globe made it clear just how international and diverse the Luminance community has become.

And critically, this year marked a turning point in enterprise adoption. Large-scale organizations repeatedly selected Luminance as their platform of choice – brands like Figma, Ralph Lauren, Campbell’s and Hyundai, all helping push us past the 1,000-customer mark.

Alongside this momentum came meaningful recognition, from featuring in the Forbes AI 50, to the honour of being named Tech Businesswoman of the Year at the UK Tech Awards. And personally, seeing Luminance lighting up the London Underground on my morning commute was a real pinch-me moment and a powerful reminder of just how far we’ve come – and the exciting direction we’re heading.

A Look Ahead

As we head into 2026, organizations are no longer wondering whether to adopt AI… they’re thinking about what’s now possible with the bottlenecks eliminated, insights unlocked and decisions accelerated. The world’s largest organizations are increasingly turning to Luminance to build scalable, AI-powered operations across their entire business. No just isolated pockets, but fundamental infrastructure.

Our mission remains clearer than ever: to provide the world’s most advanced Legal-Grade™ AI to empower businesses everywhere can operate with greater speed, clarity and confidence.

If 2025 taught us anything, it’s this: the future belongs to those willing to embrace real change. And we’re proud to be helping the world’s most ambitious organizations lead that transformation. I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next.
