March 11th | New York Luminance, the global leader in Legal-Grade™ AI for the enterprise, today announced upgrades to its autonomous contract negotiation capabilities, unveiled at Legalweek, the leading conference for the legal technology industry.
Luminance stands alone in the legal AI industry as the only platform capable of 100% AI-powered, agent-to-agent contract negotiation that is fully autonomous, with zero human intervention required. Previously known as Autopilot, Luminance’s Autonomous Negotiation made history three years ago with a live demonstration of the world’s first completely AI-powered contract negotiation, and it remains without peer in the market today.
At Legalweek, Luminance unveiled two landmark upgrades to its Autonomous Negotiation that extend its exclusive capabilities even further. First, Autonomous Negotiation can now be deployed by anyone across the enterprise, not just lawyers. Second, it surfaces the full context and institutional memory behind every decision it makes, giving users complete visibility into the why, not just the what.
These upgrades build on Luminance’s January 2026 platform evolution, which introduced the ability to retain negotiation history and legal decision-making logic across all enterprise contracts. This directly solves enterprise “amnesia,” the long-standing gap in AI contract systems that captured outcomes but discarded the context behind them.
Routine agreements, such as NDAs, may lack the profile of complex transactions, but are essential to business operations and quietly consume significant and costly time. Luminance’s internal data reveals that NDAs account for over 15% of all enterprise contracts, making them one of the most common document types in any legal workflow. Autonomous Negotiation addresses this directly, ensuring that no agreement, however standard, creates unnecessary delay or falls through the cracks.
“Luminance’s Autonomous Negotiation can now take decisions automatically while making the why behind choices totally transparent. It’s not just recording outcomes, it actually shows the context and the history driving every decision,” said Luminance CEO Eleanor Lightbody. “Further, anyone in the enterprise can be designated to use our product, not just lawyers. This transparency and accessibility is incredibly powerful, and unique.”
What distinguishes Autonomous Negotiation is its ability to conduct the entire negotiation lifecycle autonomously. It reads and analyzes the contract, remediates areas of risk, manages negotiation workflows on key collaboration channels, sends revised drafts to counterparties, tracks responses, and reacts in real time to changes made by the counterparty’s AI. The system runs fully autonomously, with no human intervention required. It is built to execute end-to-end on its own.
Teams that want an additional control layer can involve humans at any point, acting as the standard setters and quality assurers. Autonomous by default, human in the loop by choice.
It is a true agent-to-agent exchange that no other legal AI platform can replicate. By opening this capability to users across the enterprise, Luminance is fundamentally changing who can participate in and benefit from AI-driven contracting. Legal professionals are freed to focus on higher-value work, while businesses across all sectors can direct legal resource to where it is needed most.
This capability is currently in beta with select design partners from Luminance’s customer base. It will launch for all customers this Spring.
