Luminance’s AI levels the playing field for boutique firm, JAP

22 June 2020 |

-[22 June 2020]- Spanish law firm, JAP, is paving the way for innovation once again by implementing leading AI platform, Luminance, into their contract review processes.

JAP is a highly versatile law firm who pride themselves on using the latest technologies to carry out complex reviews efficiently and in narrow time spans. As a firm of just three lawyers, adopting Luminance presents an opportunity for JAP to enhance performance and develop their presence in the Spanish legal market, whilst also setting a precedent for smaller firms looking to take on cases traditionally reserved for somewhat larger firms. Indeed, from small boutique outfits to 10,000-person, Global Top 100 firms, Luminance’s machine learning is an indispensable tool for every practicing lawyer.

JAP decided to deploy Luminance after completing a complex real estate review relating to nearly 150 documents. Luminance’s machine learning was able to instantly read and form an understanding of the contracts at hand, allowing the lawyers to immediately surface key ‘Property Description’ clauses in just a few clicks. Luminance’s language-agnostic technology proved essential, enabling JAP to work seamlessly in Spanish, English and French documents. By combining the legal expertise and analysis of JAP’S legal team with the speed and scalability of Luminance’s machine learning, JAP estimated they were able to work at least 24 times faster compared to manual review methods.

José Antonio Pérez Breva, Founding Partner of JAP, comments: “Using Luminance, we were able to identify key provisions and hidden risks much quicker. The platform’s built-in project management tools were also extremely helpful, allowing the team to work in a seamless and coordinated manner, from any location. This will be very important for us in the upcoming months.”

Luminance’s acting CEO, Jason Brennan, adds: “It is exciting to see forward-thinking law firms like JAP using Luminance to accelerate document review. This just goes to show the power of machine learning in allowing firms to achieve huge time savings, with enhanced insight and confidence in their findings.”

Luminance is now used by lawyers in over 50 countries across the globe, including all of the ‘Big Four’ Accounting firms and over one fifth of the ‘Global Top 100’ law firms.
