OBH Partners use Luminance Discovery for virtual Supreme Court hearing

3 August 2020 |

-3 August 2020 – Luminance’s first Republic of Ireland customer, OBH Partners, recently deployed Luminance’s cutting-edge eDiscovery platform to help the firm’s litigation team produce electronic versions of the relevant Court-standard documentation ahead of a virtual Supreme Court hearing.

Luminance Discovery proved invaluable for OBH Partners, who were required to prepare electronic bundles of documents in a particular format ahead of the e-hearing. Using Luminance’s powerful document production capabilities, which comply with the most stringent production requirements of the US SEC and DOJ, the legal team were able to create, modify and finalise the trial bundles. Because Luminance offers highly customisable production options, OBH were able to produce bundles tailored to the Supreme Court’s specific requirements. Luminance’s robust filtering and searching functionality allows lawyers to ‘zero in’ on exactly what material they wish to include in every production, ensuring each bundle not only contains all relevant material, but that nothing beyond the scope is accidentally included either.

With all of OBH Partners’ legal team working remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Luminance’s cloud-based deployment was vital, ensuring OBH Partners could access the platform and begin their production right away. Further, Luminance Discovery’s new Word-compatibility feature also facilitated effective collaboration for OBH Partners’ remote-working litigation team. With Word documents containing evidence citations commonly used by litigation teams for case synopses or argument outlines, Luminance can automatically hyperlink all production references in Word to their original document. This ‘live’ Word document can be sent on and opened by colleagues or opposing counsel, who can click on the hyperlink and instantly be taken to the correct document in Luminance. This functionality is vital in remote working situations, where access to the physical documents is curtailed and errors in noting down production references can easily occur. Not only does this feature accelerate the document production process even further but increases accuracy and ensures the most thorough and reliable production of court-ready material.

OBH Partners adds: “Luminance Discovery’s document production tools enabled our firm to easily prepare the documents for the court hearing within a tight deadline, whilst remaining cost-efficient for our clients.”

Jason Brennan, Luminance’s acting CEO, comments: “The Covid-19 pandemic is catalyst for technological innovation in the legal sector. Not only are we seeing virtual hearings and e-learning in law schools, but we are now also seeing innovative law firms like OBH Partners using Luminance to accelerate the eDiscovery process as they navigate the new normal.”

Luminance is now used by over 230 law firms in over 50 countries globally, including all of the ‘Big Four’ accounting firms and one-fifth of the ‘Global Top 100’ law firms. Last year, the World Economic Forum named Luminance a ‘Technology Pioneer’ in recognition of its transformative technology.
