KWM Expands its Industry Leading Digital Literacy Program with the Addition of Luminance to its LegalTech Belts Program

24 August 2022 |

Asia’s top tier international firm King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) today announced the addition of Luminance, the world-leading AI provider for legal process automation, to its LegalTech Belts program.

Launched in July 2021 and a ‘first of its kind’ in the legal market, KWM’s micro credentialing digital literacy program is designed to differentiate and enhance the firm’s offering, with Belts representing four competency levels of increasing proficiency externally validated by relevant LegalTech vendors.

KWM’s LegalTech Belts program encourages and enables lawyers to deliver matters with increased efficiency through legal technology tools - while retaining legal service excellence. The Belts help clients quickly identify and assess the firm’s breadth of digital proficiency and leverage these skillsets on applicable matters.

Our LegalTech Belts program has seen rapid uptake by our people and incredible value realised by our clients. Pleasingly the appetite continues to grow. With over 76% of our lawyers having at least one Belt and since the introduction of this program we have seen our digitally-enabled lawyers leverage LegalTech 662% more often on matters prior to the implementation of this program,” said Michelle Mahoney, Executive Director of Innovation, Australia, KWM.

The addition of Luminance to our LegalTech Belts Program is an example of our commitment to continue building our peoples market-leading capabilities, optimising our legal service delivery and ultimately creating the greatest value for our clients.”

We are delighted to join KWM’s LegalTech Belts program to equip the firm’s lawyers with expertise in Luminance’s next-generation technology. Artificial intelligence is a key weapon in any modern law firm’s arsenal, enabling legal teams to understand their documents quickly, facilitate informed decision-making and deliver a clear competitive advantage in negotiations,” said Eleanor Lightbody (née Weaver), CEO of Luminance.

Indeed, as both businesses and governments continue to place greater emphasis on advanced technologies for future growth, organisations across all industries are going to need AI in order to remain competitive. The legal industry is no exception, and the market for legal teams with an AI skillset will certainly grow. I look forward to seeing the impact of this exciting initiative in a world-leading firm such as KWM.”
