Luminance, the pioneer in Legal-Grade™ AI, has been named to the 2025 Forbes AI 50, joining the ranks of the most prominent AI companies globally.
Selected from a pool of nearly 2,000 applicants, this year’s list was among the most competitive to date, judged on technical innovation, business performance, and AI impact. Luminance is the only company founded in Cambridge, UK, to be featured and one of just three UK-based businesses recognised. CEO Eleanor Lightbody is also among only six women leading companies on this year’s list.
Eleanor Lightbody, CEO at Luminance: “This recognition is a real milestone – for both Luminance and the field of legal AI. Contracts are the lifeblood of any business – holding critical insights into everything from regulatory risk to missed revenue opportunities. But they’ve traditionally been viewed as dense, static documents – not strategic assets. Luminance is changing that by unlocking the full value of legal data in seconds, transforming it into actionable business insights. I’m also proud to lead the only company on this list founded in Cambridge, UK. It’s an honor to showcase UK innovation — world-leading AI doesn’t have to come from Silicon Valley.”
Luminance has taken a fundamentally different approach to other vendors on the legal technology market. Its mixture of experts approach – known as the Panel of Judges – brings together a diverse range of highly specialised AI models, from proprietary systems and reasoning models to fine-tuned GPTs. These models use probabilistic consensus to deliver specialised, legal-grade answers users can trust. Combined with exposure to over 150 million verified legal documents and a decade of domain expertise, this architecture enables true legal reasoning and understanding across the contract lifecycle.
Since the start of 2025, the company has continued its rapid growth and innovation. In February, Luminance announced a $75M Series C fundraise led by Point72 Private Investments, bringing total funding to $115M in a 12-month period. The round supports further expansion of its agentic, end-to-end workflows – intelligent AI agents with both short- and long-term memory that can perform multiple tasks in parallel.
Today, Luminance is used by over 700 organisations in more than 70 countries, spanning every industry – from the world’s largest law firms to blue chip organisations such as AMD, DHL, Hitachi and Staples.
