Giliberti Triscornia e Associati selects Luminance’s artificial intelligence platform

11 January 2019 |

Italian law firm Giliberti Triscornia e Associati (‘GTA’) has chosen Luminance’s artificial intelligence platform to streamline its document review processes in complex cross-border transactions.

On June 2018, GTA, which is ranked in Legal500 and Chambers, decided to adopt Luminance after a successful two-week pilot of the platform using both Italian and English documents. Of particular interest was Luminance’s ability to read and understand documents in any language. Once the documents had been uploaded, Luminance immediately revealed clusters of both Italian and English documents containing similar patterns in language, allowing the firm to instantly see which documents were anomalous.

Edoardo Mistretta, Partner at GTA noted, “Luminance was able to instantly identify similar patterns in the wording of clauses , even within documents where certain clauses were not likely to be found. This gave us an unparalleled level of insight into the due diligence documents, allowing us to pinpoint anomalies that would have otherwise taken more time and effort to find.”

Emily Foges, CEO of Luminance added, “We are very pleased to welcome Giliberti Triscornia e Associati to our growing number of Italian customers. Luminance’s ability to identify ‘unknown unknowns’ within the data room will continue to give the firm greater visibility into their documents going forward.”

Developed by mathematicians from the University of Cambridge, Luminance harnesses proprietary machine learning algorithms to read and understand legal documents in a similar way to humans, coping with volumes and working at speeds that no human can match. Trained by legal experts, Luminance can highlight anomalies within large groups of documents, allowing lawyers to prioritise their work more effectively, using the insight presented to them on day one of a transaction.

Since launching in 2016, Luminance has over 130 customers in over 40 countries across six continents, including 14 of The Global Top 100 law firms and three of the ‘Big Four’ accountancy firms. The company’s CEO, Emily Foges, was named ‘Woman of the Year’ at the Women in IT Excellence Awards in November 2018.

About Giliberti Triscornia e Associati

Giliberti Triscornia e Associati is a distinctive Milan-based law firm, founded in 1988 and focused on delivering excellence in the legal market. Since inception, the Firm has privileged seniority, flexibility and talent as opposed to size and has opted to only focus on corporate law to develop a strong, integrated M&A, banking and litigation practice. The hard-fougth legal battle around the Italian giant steel company, ILVA, or the first activist campaign resulting in the appointment of the majority of the board of an European blue-chip, Telecom Italia, are the best evidence of how far the Firm can go in scope and effectiveness.
